My family and I were not satisfied with our experience with Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub. We lived for a time in Ireland and went in with expectations of an Irish pub as the name suggests. The Chips and Curry was no curry at all. The “curry” tasted more like a tomato sauce with spices that did not resemble curry. My family and I were highly disappointed.
In addition, we were unimpressed with the Fish and Chips. Though the fish was perfectly cooked and beautifully crusty, it was flavorless. There was no flavor to the fish, and even the perfect batter had no taste. $22 for three pieces of tasteless fish seems outrageous, to me.
The bar is beautiful, the music was loud, hard rock, and the bathroom floor was sticky.
The waiter was nice, but we had to ask for refills on water.
I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to eat good food; only if you are looking to to drink and pay high dollar.

Full size Guinness glasses. Want to mention this up front. Was at another Irish pub in SA and quickly realized their glassware was only a 12oz baby pint. Sat at the bar and received fast and friendly service.

Came in for the frozen irish coffee to enjoy on the riverwalk. It was ok tasting - not creamy and boozy enough for my taste. But fast service

The food was really really bad!
Very expensive and bland, tasteless and disgusting.
The bill was 300$ and I would never ever recommend going to this restaurant.
The onion rings were undercooked and looked like they forgot to cut them before frying, I’m posting the images down for your reference.
Overall, had a really bad experience dining there.

Great location and friendly staff. Im always on the lookout for great fish and chips, and they delivered. Perfectly cooked and mkist inside with a crispy crust. Not easily achieved and will be back on my next visit to san antonio.

Waxy O'Connor's definitely has a lot going for it. The location is unbeatable - right on the Riverwalk in the heart of downtown San Antonio. You can't beat the vibe sitting outside on the patio and soaking up the atmosphere. The building itself is pretty cool too - supposedly shipped over from Ireland! It's got that classic Irish pub feel.

Now, the food is a different story. It wasn't just lackluster; it was downright disappointing. Despite the charming surroundings, the food at Waxy O'Connor's fails to live up to expectations. While the menu boasts a variety of Irish-inspired dishes, the execution often falls short. Diners may find the fare to be lackluster, lacking the flavorful punch expected from traditional Irish cuisine.

The dishes, ranging from wings to nachos and burgers, lacked the authentic taste and quality one would hope for in an Irish pub. The flavors were uninspired, and the overall dining experience left much to be desired.

Nevertheless, the pub's friendly staff and extensive drink selection help to redeem the overall dining experience. Whether you're stopping by for a pint of Guinness or to soak in the lively atmosphere, Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub offers a memorable outing, albeit with a significant letdown in the culinary department.

Overall, Waxy's is a decent choice for a drink and some live music (they have it every night!) in a fantastic location. Just don't go there expecting a culinary revelation

The fish and chips were amazing! I’ve never had real Irish fish and chips so I can’t compare but I definitely encourage you to stop by and give them a try. The wait staff were upbeat and checked on me often during my meal. And honestly, it’s hard to beat eating a good meal on the Riverwalk while watching the boats drift by.

We were so disappointed this time!
After finishing our lunch to see roaches, walk across the table and on the wall next to our table. 🤢
No, we did not say anything. We just hurried up and paid our bill and took off out of there. I would much rather leave than start conflict.
