Understanding Apostilles

An Apostille is a certificate of authentication that verifies the authenticity of an important document, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or powers of attorney. It’s essential when these documents need to be used in a foreign country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention. The Texas Secretary of State’s office handles the issuance of Apostilles for documents originating within the state. The process involves submitting the original document, a fee, and a completed application form. They prioritize ensuring the document meets all legal requirements for authentication.

Notary Public Services

Beyond Apostilles, the office provides standard Notary Public services, including administering oaths, acknowledgments, and affirmations. A Notary Public is a state-appointed official authorized to witness signatures and notarize documents, confirming the signer’s identity and intent. This building is beautiful. There was no line when I first arrived and then a very short line at 3:30pm. It was very cold and rainy today, so that might be why there was no line. I give 5 stars because they did their job of not accepting my notarized documents at first as the first notary I used didn't do it correctly. That is their one job, to make sure the notarized document is true. If they bent the rules and accepted it incorrectly done, that would defeat the whole purpose of this apostille government service. Thank you for doing a great job!!

It is profoundly disappointing to express my grievances with the Texas Secretary of State Authentications Unit, especially in the year 2023. In an age where technological advancements and administrative reforms are expected to speed up processes and enhance efficiency, it is inconceivable that I am still waiting for important documents after a wait of over two months.

The very essence of the Authentications Unit is to provide a vital service for individuals and businesses alike. Delays like these not only disrupt personal timelines but can also have broader implications on businesses and international transactions. I understand that there might be a surge in requests or unforeseen challenges, but it's crucial to communicate such delays or provide reasonable timelines to customers.

This lapse in efficiency is not just an administrative oversight; it represents a broader issue of lack of adaptability and responsiveness to the public's needs. For a state as influential and progressive as Texas, this is nothing short of a disgrace.

I genuinely hope that this review, along with the feedback from countless others who might be experiencing similar challenges, pushes the department to reconsider its operations, prioritize customer service, and uphold the standards of service delivery that Texans expect and deserve.

A month ago went to get papers apostillized, told me they couldn’t take me and I needed to set an appointment to get it done. Called again and asked to set an appointment and they told me they don’t do appointments. They have poor customer service and lack of consistent policy. Now I have to pay $200 through a different company to rush what they easily have done in 15 mins with an appointment. Thank you for your lack of service.
