The mural on the back of their building is incredibly divisive, and total misinformation. They looked for mass graves in tulsa, they were chomping at the bit to prove their racist rhetoric against whites. They made a lot of commotion about it. But when they actually looked, guess what they found? Absolutely nothing. And of course they in no way reported this with the same reach, enthusiasm, or fervor that they used to bring attention to the idea of mass graves. This place is ran by racists.

Inspired by the groundbreaking research by the late History Recovery Specialist LeeRoy Chapman, the Center focuses on hidden, underappreciated, and challenging aspects of Tulsa’s past. Already it has established a reputation for cutting edge programming that engages Tulsans by challenging the perceived and real boundaries that separate us. These programs run from exhibits to public lectures and original films. The Center also makes is space available to community groups, thereby deepening its commitment to the people of our city and region. A true Tulsa treasure!

I attended a screening of an indie film at this venue not expecting much. I was not only still disappointed, but also scammed.

The staff were clearly unprepared to host any film screening. They were 30 minutes late to start the film plus an additional 5-minute delay due to technical difficulties. What little covering they placed on the windows to block the street lights from shining in and onto the screen fell off during the film, leaving a significant glare for half of it. Half of the audio in the film was so muffled I couldn't hear what they were saying, though whether that was the fault of the venue or the film itself I could not say for sure.

Worst of all were the "concessions". For $5 they claimed to serve unlimited popcorn, coffee and tea. Note that they did not serve water, so if that's all you wanted you had to get it from the bathroom faucet. Furthermore, they did not provide cups with which to actually drink any of the beverages, so if you did not know to bring your own then you were out of luck. I still paid for the popcorn, which itself was not popped ahead of time and needed to be prepared using a kettle which the cashier at the table was unfamiliar with. She apparently burned the first batch but assured me that she would bring the next back to my seat as the movie was about to start. That popcorn never materialized. Once the film ended I intended to ask for a refund on the $5 I paid for the popcorn which I never received (and the beverages I was unable to drink), but the cashier had already left and I was unable to do so.

To summarize, I could have forgiven the amateurish operation of the venue itself (though I would have expected more for a $15 ticket). But given that I paid extra for concessions which I did not receive and was not refunded for, I can definitively say the venue operators scammed me. As a result, I will not give them the benefit of the doubt and highly recommend people stay away from this place.
