The Democrat Herald and Gazette Times are part of the mid valley newspaper group, which currently has 1.9 stars and a bevy of reviews talking about their shady practices.

They have been raising rates steadily and without notification, and have made cancelation of subscriptions next to impossible.

Dispite multiple attempts to cancel my subscription, they are still attempting to charge me $40 a month.

They give local news a black eye.

Signed up for the $4.99 digital subscription, and it increased over the last 2.5 years to $30.99 per month without notice of any kind. They claimed it in their terms and conditions, however, I was never made aware that that existed. I plan on seeking a full refund, and or if they refuse, I will be taking them to small claims court.

Incredibly poor customer service. Their phone service tells you to cancel online. Their online account management tells you to call customer service. Called back only to wait for 20+ minutes, have the system ask me to rate the customer service agent that I hadn't talked to yet, and then hang up on me.

Sadly, they no longer allow the public into this office. I am having an issue with home delivery, but I did receive the help I needed when I stood by the entrance and called the number posted on the door. This used to be such a friendly place. People were always friendly and helpful. I guess they are still helpful, but I did miss the human contact.

I would give zero stars if I could. We didn't receive our paper for months. After I cancelled, they continued to bill me for almost a year. I could not get them to stop. They owe me a ton of money. Do not subscribe.

I think daily reading is important to maintain communication skills.

I never really thought about it until I tried reading books from the 1920s and earlier. To be honest with you it started out as different and interesting, then turned frustrating. Why is that?

Well, if you listen you can hear the way people talk changes over time. The same applies to the way people write. It changes over time, albeit incrementally and perhaps even imperceptibly to those reading current material daily.

The best way I have found to stay current and relevant in communication is reading the daily local newspaper. And the best way to do so is through home delivery.

Husband cancelled the paper since it was getting outrageously expensive. ADH continued to bill him and he can't get his money refunded after NUMEROUS calls to so-called "customer service".
